Report on the activities of the Irkutsk regional non-governmental organization “Baikal Environmental Wave” for 2006

Resolved Tasks

Types of Regular Activity

  • Diffusion of environmental information (through the library and video library, the website of the organization, the monthly digest of environmental information, the environmental journal “Volna” (“Wave”)
  • Educational Activity (organization and carrying out of seminars for teachers, students, representatives of business and institutions of local government)
  • Creation of video- and film-production
  • Publishing activity (publishing of the journal “Wave,” brochures, booklets, methodical manuals)
  • Consulting citizens about environmental problems.

Documentary film about problems of illegal wood felling
GoalCreation of a documentary film about illegal wood felling and transport of forest in Russia (which constitutes 30% of the entire forest sphere) in example of the Irkutsk region. This film needed to present, in bright and laconic form, this problem for a broad circle of people, using artistic-publistic means of cinematography.

  • Excursions to energy facilities (Irkutsk Hydro-Electric Power Station, New Irkutsk Coal Power Station) and to Olkhon Island where electrical lines were recently constructed, for students of the pedagogical college
  • 4 seminars “Energy-saving in school and at home” for professors in Irkutsk, Ust-Kut, Slyudiyanka, and Tulun.
  • Practical measures (insulating the library in the Pedagogical College and the substitution of incandescent light bulbs for energy-saving light bulbs)
  • Seminar “Interactive methods in Environmental Education” on the example subject “Energy-saving” for students of the college
  • Creating stickers for energy-saving
  • Collection of information for a data base about energy-saving technologies
  • Coverage of the project in mass media
  • Presentation of the project with participating specialists of the city administration
  • Publishing of the journal “Wave” with the theme “The Cost of Energy”and distributing it amongeducational and scientific institutions, libraries, activists and so on.
