Press services/video studio (Olga Belskaya)
In May the BEW press service prepared new material for the website. The 72nd edition of the Digest of ecological information was released. A new page has been added to the website, “Baikal Movement News”, where a selection of material from the press has been placed in chronological order. Our own information on the Baikal Movement, starting in March 2006, about events which has taken place concerning the Eastern Siberian- Pacific oil pipeline has also been placed on the webpage.
The coordinator of press-centre of BEW participated in the council of NGOs giving a presentation on the Baikal movement and in a consultation with V.V Nefedev, the council governor of the Irkutsk oblast forestry sector about the creation of a social conference on the forest issue.
The BEW video studio has given two applications for participation in the film festivals, “Man and Nature” (Irkutsk 8- 17 September 2006) and , “Agrofilm” (Prague, Chez Repulic, 2- 6 October 2006) with the films, “Tomorrow starts Yesterday” and “I sell the forest at the root”.
Library/ Video library (Vera Yakovlevna Pakhomova)
The BEW library (reading room) and video library services were used by 54 people.
The librarian participated in an event at the Geological research institute on the theme, “The pipeline’s proximity to Baikal.”.
Volunteer services (Natalya Podkovoirova)
1.Writing an application to the European Commission on the programme “Youth”, Action 2 “European Voluntary Service” in collaboration with the Spanish youth organisation, “La Vibria”.
2.Participation in the planning of the youth exchange on the theme “Ecology of Europe 2006”, which will take place this year in France in collaboration with French and Georgian youth organisations.
3.Writing of an application to the programme “Russian-American youth initiative” for the invitation of American volunteers to take part in BEW socio-ecological projects.
4.The creation of official visa invitations for a volunteer from Great Britain and participants in the “Taho-Baikal Institute”.
5.The organisation of ongoing work being under taken by British and German volunteers.
6.Work with interns from the Colleges and Universities who works on the base of our organisation.
7.Communication with potential volunteers from Russia and abroad which are addressing our organisation through the web-site.
8.The planting of shrubbery around the BEW Infocentre has been undertaken with the help of volunteers.
Department of ecotourism (Yana Ogarkova)
The excursion “The flowering steppe of Tazheran” has been developed, and advertisements about the trip have been posted on the BEW website in both English and Russian. The “Ecotourism” section of the website has been twice renovated.
With the aim of studying the market for tourist services and studying them from an ecological perspective the director of the Department of ecotourism took part:
Communication with the Union of Green Germans about our upcoming excursion to Baikal with them on the 4th-8th June.
Communication with The Centre of Ecotourism in Moscow has reached an agreement about collaboration. The BEW propositions have been placed on the webpages:

In the framework of collaboration, the creation of a July excursion for Moscow tourists around Irkutsk is being planned. Help in the organisation of a summer volunteers camp.
Coordinator of work with the authorities and business, coordinator of the campaign, “Baikal is worth more than oil” (Marina Rikhvanova)
Coordinated work with the administration of the Irkutsk oblast on the organisation of seminars for the training of municipalities, initiators of economic activity and the local activists on technologies of public participation in decision making rpocess. The seminars will take place in June in the framework of the project, “The development of a legal culture of the public consultation and hearings on the municipal level in Irkutsk oblast” (which is financed by USAID (United States Agency of International Development) under the framework of the Programme for Development in the Third Sector and the inter-regional social foundation “Siberian social support initiative centre”.)
An agreement has been reached with The Siberian Coal energy company about the organisation of excursions for students of the Pedagogical College on one of the enterprises for an introduction with the problems of coal mining (project, “Cost of Energy”).
Information has been collected about the enterprises and technologies for Energy efficiency in construction at the exhibition at the Siberian Expo Centre. Participation in the organizational committee of “The Baikal Movement”.
