In February 2006 the Infocentre entered the following:

The February edition of the Digest of ecological information was released.
- Library/Video library
In February the library (reading area) and video library were used by 39 people. The librarian took part in the event to highlight Baikal day in school No. 14 and in the round table discussion, ‘The problems of Baikal’ at the Irkutsk hydro-meteorological faculty.
- Volunteer services
Work with the passport- visa office to permit the arrival of two German volunteers who are to be undertaking charitable work in Russia for a period of six months.
- The department of ecotourism
The representative of BEW, Yana Ogarkova went to Germany from 1st to 14th February on the invitation of Benedict Bispen, who heads the department of tourist services of the of German Union of the protection nature. The trip was as a result of five years of combined planning. The trip included a visit to two hiking trails, an information centre and children’s centre in the Bavarian forest national park.
At the exhibition of Alternative tourism in Hannover, Yana Ogarkova gave a presentation about the future development of ecotourism on Baikal and the activity of the Baikal Environmental Wave.
An account of the trip has been written and placed on the Website under the title ‘The Europe-ans are aspiring to nature.’
The research undertaken on the trip provided information for the February exhibition in the Si-berian Exhibition Centre, ‘Baikal Tour 2006’.
- Coordinator with the authorities and business, director of the campaign, ‘Baikal is worth more than oil’.
The collection of information for the campaign concerning the ‘Eastern Siberian- Pacific’ oil pipeline, and conducting meetings with representatives of different social and trade union or-ganisations about the possibilities of organising a mass protest in Irkutsk against the proximity of the proposed pipeline to Baikal. Presentation of the campaign on the Council of Irkutsk NGOs. Participation in public hearings of the project “Gasification of the Irkutsk Oblast”. A meeting between the Ford foundation representatives, Baikal Environmental Wave and other local charitable organisations has been organised.
